The US Department of Defense has issued Raytheon a $1.02 billion contract modification to continue production of the Lower Tier Air and Missile Defense Sensor for the US Army. The latest award amends a $2.1 billion base contract finalized in 2024.
The overall program has grown significantly, with an additional $1.7 billion procurement announced in September 2025, lifting the total contract value to about $3.8 billion. Work under the new order will be performed at Raytheon’s Andover, Massachusetts facility, with completion planned for March 2030.
Program oversight will be provided by the US Army Contracting Command at Redstone Arsenal, Alabama. The LTAMDS radar is intended to replace legacy Patriot system radars that are being retired across the US military and partner nations.
The system is engineered to counter advanced airborne threats, including those traveling at hypersonic speeds of up to Mach 5. It delivers 360-degree coverage and supports simultaneous tracking and engagement of multiple targets. To support continued development, Raytheon partnered with TTM Technologies in January, with the supplier expected to receive up to $200 million over three years for the delivery of essential electronic and radio frequency components.
