Project Nightfall marks a significant escalation in the UK’s military support for Ukraine, focusing on the rapid development of a new class of ground-launched tactical ballistic missiles. Intended to provide deep-strike capability, the missiles will deliver 200-kilogram warheads at ranges exceeding 500 kilometers, even under intense electronic warfare conditions. Designed for high mobility, the system can be launched from multiple vehicle platforms, execute rapid salvos, and redeploy before enemy counter-fire. The UK plans to award three parallel development contracts worth £9 million each, with the first missiles expected within a year. With a capped unit cost and scalable production targets, Nightfall complements existing allied aid such as long-range drones and reinforces London’s long-term commitment to Ukraine, while also informing the future evolution of British strike capabilities.
