Northrop Grumman has completed the first launch of its digitally redesigned ICBM target vehicle, marking a key step in modernizing how the US tests missile defense systems against advanced long-range threats. The vehicle successfully met all performance objectives and used a decommissioned Peacekeeper ICBM second-stage motor provided through the Space Force. Built using a digital-first approach, the target employed digital twins, virtual reality rehearsals, and augmented reality tools to streamline manufacturing, integration, and launch preparation. The approach reduced field execution time by 25 percent while improving safety and system integration for Missile Defense Agency flight tests.
