The United States gave its approval on Tuesday for a sale to Morocco of up to 600 Stinger anti-air missiles and associated hardware valued at $825 million.
“The planned sale will enhance Morocco’s capacity to counter present and future challenges. According to a statement from the US Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA), “Morocco plans to employ these defense items and services to upgrade its military and increase its current army short range air defense capabilities.”
“This will help the Moroccan Army achieve its goals of improving capabilities and strengthening interoperability with the US and other allies,” it stated.
The potential sale was approved by the State Department, and on Tuesday, the DSCA sent the necessary notification to the US Congress, which must still approve the deal.
