Lockheed Martin has secured a $52-million contract to maintain, configure, and operate HIMARS and MLRS launchers for the US Army. The scope includes operational support, parts storage, and a distribution hub in Grand Prairie, Texas, with work projected to finish by May 2031. HIMARS and MLRS are central to the Long-Range Precision Fires modernization effort and share munitions such as the GMLRS and extended-range rockets. The systems differ in mobility: HIMARS is wheeled, lightweight, and rapidly deployable, while MLRS is tracked and armored for high-intensity operations. Global demand for HIMARS has surged due to its performance in Ukraine, anti-ISIS missions, and Indo-Pacific deployments. Customers like Australia, Bahrain, Canada, and Estonia have placed new orders.
