Hanwha Aerospace has announced plans to invest 100 million euros to expand cooperation with Estonia’s defense sector, including building new industrial infrastructure and strengthening long-term defense partnerships. A key part of the investment involves establishing a maintenance and repair facility that will service military systems supplied by the company to the Estonian Defence Forces. Among the equipment supported by the facility will be the K9 Thunder self-propelled artillery system and the K239 Chunmoo multiple rocket launcher platform. The new sustainment center is expected to enhance operational readiness by providing in-country maintenance, technical assistance, and lifecycle support. The investment package also includes plans to build a 40-millimeter ammunition production plant with an annual capacity of more than 300,000 rounds. About 25 million euros from the total investment will be directed toward the construction of this factory, which will be operated in cooperation with an Estonian partner company. In addition to infrastructure development, the program will introduce training programs, equipment support services, and joint research and development initiatives with local defense firms. Hanwha Aerospace described the initiative as a strategic partnership aimed at building sustainable industrial cooperation rather than a simple financial investment. The company estimates that the broader economic impact of the project could reach about 160 million euros through joint projects and industrial activity. When combined with the original investment, the overall cooperation package could be worth around 260 million euros. Estonian Defense Minister Hanno Pevkur confirmed that the investment is linked to Tallinn’s procurement of the Chunmoo rocket artillery system, underscoring the country’s effort to modernize its military capabilities while boosting domestic defense industry development.
