The United States has approved Germany’s request to acquire SM-6 Block I and SM-2 Block IIIC missiles worth $3.5 billion for the future F127 frigates. The deal includes nearly 750 missiles, related launch canisters, test systems, engineering support, and logistics packages. The SM-6 provides multi-mission capabilities, while the SM-2 IIIC introduces a dual-mode seeker and enhanced flight control. Germany’s new MEKO A-400-based F127s, co-produced by NVL and thyssenkrupp Marine Systems, will feature Aegis and AN/SPY-6(V)1 to replace the F124 Sachsen class. The country aims to field up to eight advanced air-defense ships equipped for layered missile engagements.
