Norway’s decision to procure the K239 Chunmoo system represents a significant enhancement of its long-range firepower and a notable diversification of its defense procurement base. The Chunmoo’s ability to deploy multiple missile types, including long-range variants, was a decisive factor in the evaluation process. Hanwha’s expanding European industrial footprint, particularly in Poland, and its offer of extensive industrial cooperation with Norwegian companies further strengthened the bid. With the acquisition, Norway joins a growing group of NATO members turning to South Korean rocket artillery systems to rapidly field deep-strike capabilities amid heightened security concerns along NATO’s northern flank.
