NATO has formally launched operations for its Forward Land Forces (FLF) Finland formation, marking a major step in strengthening collective defence across Northern Europe. The multinational force includes a Swedish battle group and is designed to act as a rapid-reaction unit capable of responding to emerging security threats. The deployment follows Finland and Sweden’s accession to NATO after Russia’s invasion of Ukraine reshaped the regional security environment. By establishing a permanent multinational military presence in Finland, NATO aims to improve readiness, interoperability, and deterrence along its northern frontier.
