More than 100,000 people have reportedly lost their lives in Myanmar since the military coup of February 2021, according to conflict monitoring organization ACLED. The overthrow of the elected government sparked widespread protests that evolved into a prolonged civil war involving pro-democracy resistance groups and ethnic armed organizations. While no official casualty figures have been released, analysts regard the conflict as Asia’s deadliest ongoing war, with sustained violence continuing to impact civilians, armed groups, and government forces across multiple regions of the country.
