Sweden-based Lumibird Photonics has a deal with Saab to provide 57 VIDAR laser rangefinders for the Royal Danish Navy’s frigate force.
The systems, which will be delivered in 2025 and 2026, will be integrated into the CEROS naval fire control systems that Saab uses on Danish frigates, giving real-time, high-frequency distance measurement capabilities.
This enhances the accuracy of naval weapons and missile launchers in hitting quickly moving targets in challenging situations, such as surface vessels or drones, and improves threat tracking.
“This new success with Saab confirms the versatility and technical maturity of our VIDAR rangefinder,” said Marc LE Flohic, CEO of Lumibird Group.
“We are pleased to see our technology helping the Danish Ministry of Defense in its goal of maintaining maritime security and equipping NATO ships.”
Carina Harnesk, the CEO of Lumibird Photonics Sweden, observed in the meantime that the firm foresees “strong potential for future orders from additional users with similar operational needs.”
