PT Pindad, Indonesia’s state-run defense manufacturer, has partnered with Rheinmetall of Germany to jointly develop next-generation ammunition technologies.
The collaboration builds on Indonesia’s ongoing efforts to expand international defense cooperation. Earlier this year, Jakarta contracted France’s Dassault Aviation for the purchase of Rafale fighter aircraft.
PT Pindad has also pursued several joint development programs, such as its work with FNSS of Turkey on the Kaplan medium tank, and with partners from South Korea and India on munitions and armored vehicle systems.
At the same time, PT PAL Indonesia is strengthening the nation’s naval shipbuilding capacity through partnerships with Dutch and Japanese companies. These moves reflect a consistent policy aimed at enhancing domestic capabilities while leveraging foreign expertise and technology.
