The US Naval Sea Systems Command has given Lockheed Martin a $245 million contract extension for the MK 48 Guidance and Control (G&C) program. The most recent iteration of the MK 48 submarine-launched torpedo, the Mod 7, will have its capabilities improved by the G&C component. The upgrade will be a part of foreign military sales and will benefit allied forces, like Australia, as well as the US Navy. It is anticipated that the project will be finished by September 2027.
