Canadian defense training company CAE and Italian aerospace manufacturer Leonardo have expanded their partnership to modernize training programs for the M-346 Master advanced jet trainer. The agreement introduces advanced Live, Virtual and Constructive (LVC) training capabilities and Live Synthetic Integration methods to prepare pilots for increasingly complex combat environments.The companies will also develop a technology roadmap supporting future M-346 configurations, including advanced Block 20 digital variants. The initiative aims to prepare aircrews for next-generation operations involving artificial intelligence, automation, and increasingly autonomous aircraft systems.The partnership builds on the International Flight Training School (IFTS) in Sardinia, Italy, where CAE and Leonardo provide integrated training for Italian Air Force pilots and international customers. The facility combines live aircraft operations, advanced simulation, and mission rehearsal environments to create realistic training scenarios.The collaboration comes after Canada selected the M-346 Master as its future advanced jet trainer platform. The aircraft will support pilot preparation as Canada transitions toward operating advanced fighter aircraft, including fifth-generation platforms such as the F-35.
