Babcock has secured a major contract extension to continue providing in-service support for the Royal Canadian Navy’s Victoria-class diesel-electric submarines, ensuring the fleet remains fully operational as Canada prepares to introduce a next-generation submarine capability in the coming decade. The six-year agreement includes options to continue sustainment activities throughout the submarines’ remaining operational life, providing long-term stability for fleet maintenance and readiness. The award builds on nearly two decades of cooperation between Babcock and the Canadian government, during which the company has developed extensive expertise in submarine engineering, maintenance planning, logistics management, and supply chain support. Since 2008, the Victoria-class sustainment program has generated more than 3.2 billion Canadian dollars ($2.2 billion) in economic impact, supported approximately 450 Canadian industry partners, and sustained more than 1,500 skilled jobs each year. Beyond maintaining the fleet, Babcock has strengthened Canada’s sovereign defense industrial base through partnerships with universities, Indigenous communities, and small and medium-sized businesses, promoting innovation, workforce development, and technical skills. According to Babcock Canada CEO Tony March, the extension reinforces the company’s commitment to delivering a safe, capable, and mission-ready submarine fleet while supporting a smooth transition to Canada’s future submarine program.
