The U.S. Navy has contracted Absher Construction Company to build an armored vehicle support center at Naval Base Kitsap-Bangor in Washington. The agreement is valued at $22.8 million, with an additional $1 million to be allocated later for fixtures, equipment, and security upgrades.
The center will include five specialized maintenance bays, a paint booth, and a blast booth. According to the Navy, construction will begin with groundwork—structural fill in forested areas, drainage and stormwater systems—before moving to the installation of a custom metal-frame facility.
This new complex will be dedicated to servicing armored fighting vehicles, supporting operational readiness with both technical infrastructure and administrative workspaces. A paved vehicle receiving yard will further streamline operations.
Naval Base Kitsap-Bangor is home to the Marine Corps Security Force Battalion, tasked with defending the Strategic Weapons Facility Pacific. The battalion employs Humvees, MRAPs, and light armored vehicles in its mission. Once completed in October 2027, the new center will strengthen the base’s security posture and vehicle readiness.
