A defense collaboration between Bulgaria and Germany, valued at over $1.1 billion, is set to transform the Balkan defense sector. Under the partnership, Bulgaria will host advanced production facilities for shells, gunpowder, and long-range weaponry, supported by Rheinmetall and Bulgaria’s GERB party. Discussions launched earlier this year have now gained momentum, with formal contracts expected soon. A dedicated drone manufacturing site is also on the agenda. Bulgaria’s Sopot factory is likely to play a key role in operations. The joint program aims not only to enhance NATO capabilities but also to deliver strong economic benefits, including thousands of jobs and expanded industrial expertise, positioning Bulgaria as a more significant defense contributor in Europe.
