The UK’s next generation of military aircraft will use 3D-printed new components made from ground-down parts of decommissioned Royal Air Force Tornado planes. Recycling was targeted for components with a high titanium content, such as jet engine compressor blades. Using Additive Manufacturing Solutions (AMS), the components were cleaned and transformed into 3D-printed compressor blades and a nose cone, which were then mounted to an Orpheus small engine design.
