Offshore Service Vessels has handed over the MV Aiviq, a replacement icebreaker vessel, to help the US Coast Guard’s polar cutter fleet modernization program. The primary function of the MV Aiviq is to maintain the force’s presence in the Arctic until the service’s new Polar Security Cutters arrive in the 2030s. The Louisiana-based maritime firm was given the $125 million contract to buy the commercially available system in November.
