Spain has tasked Indra with developing a next-generation land combat vehicle under a €45-million PAMOV contract aimed at replacing the Leopard 2E main battle tank beyond 2040. The program focuses on integrating advanced propulsion, protection, firepower, and situational awareness while maintaining high battlefield mobility. Indra is reportedly exploring a new powertrain and network-centric combat functions to enhance connectivity with allied forces. Featuring a scalable electronic architecture, the future tank is intended to outlast Spain’s current armored fleet. The initiative represents Madrid’s second major attempt to modernize its armored forces following its absence from the Franco-German MGCS program, though analysts caution about cost and partnership challenges.
