South Korea is approaching the final stages of a pivotal arms deal with Poland that will see the transfer of K2 battle tanks, a top official from the country’s defense agency stated this week.
The proposed deal is part of the nations’ broader 2022 $13.7 billion defense agreement, which has already included the sale of tanks and aircraft to bolster Poland’s strategic deterrent.
Both governments and defense firms are reportedly working together to expedite the agreement’s conclusion, though no official value has been confirmed by authorities.
If finalized, it would represent South Korea’s largest defense export deal for a single weapon system.
According to Yonhap, the agreement could be worth $6 billion, with 117 tanks built by Hyundai Rotem and the rest produced domestically in Poland.
