The Bundeswehr is poised to enhance its operational awareness with the introduction of Systematic’s SitaWare Edge, following a formal supply agreement with the Danish software provider. Designed for troops operating in dynamic and disconnected settings, the software consolidates mapping, mission planning, chat, and force tracking into a single user-friendly interface accessible via tablets or mobile devices. It allows real-time sharing of intelligence and monitoring of unit positions, effectively linking ground soldiers with command structures. The system maintains secure communications even when networks are constrained, leveraging tactical radios, satellites, or low-bandwidth links. Germany’s agreement with Systematic includes a development package to tailor the software to specific operational needs. This implementation is part of the wider Mission Enabling Service, intended to modernize digital C2 capabilities across all operational domains, establish a unified information network, and improve situational awareness from headquarters to frontline soldiers. The initiative supports NATO’s digital transformation goals by strengthening interoperability and networked operations, boosting Germany’s capacity for agile and coordinated missions with allies. Systematic’s products are already deeply integrated into Bundeswehr modernization efforts, and a seven-year maintenance contract signed in 2023 ensures continuous software updates, support, and seamless integration across platforms, reflecting a strategic investment in next-generation battlefield command systems.
