The US Army has chosen Saab to deliver its Giraffe 1X radar systems under a contract worth about $46 million. Though the number of systems has not been disclosed, the radars will be supplied to support security cooperation programs, with deliveries planned to start in 2026. Saab’s Giraffe 1X radar is a modern 3D surveillance system known for its compact structure and light weight, which allows it to be deployed quickly and efficiently. The radar weighs less than 150 kilograms and can be mounted on ground vehicles, naval platforms, or stationary bases. It provides uninterrupted airspace monitoring and real-time detection of incoming threats such as drones, missiles, and aircraft. Designed to share critical target data with command networks, the system improves coordination between different defense units. Its ability to integrate easily with mobile and naval systems offers flexibility to modern armed forces. Saab has been a trusted partner in US defense radar programs, delivering reliable and adaptable systems suited for complex missions. The Giraffe radar family, including the 1X model, is recognized for its precise detection, minimal false alarms, and ability to handle multiple targets simultaneously. With this latest order, Saab reinforces its presence in the US defense market and contributes to enhancing air surveillance and threat detection capabilities among allied nations.
