As tensions with China rise, Washington is supporting its treaty-bound ally, the Philippines, by announcing that it has authorized the potential sale of $5.58 billion worth of F-16 fighter planes to the country.The State Department has said that it has given its approval to a sale to the Philippines that includes 20 F-16 jets and associated gear.
