The Netherlands has finalized a contract with Robin Radar Technologies to purchase 100 drone-detection radars, accelerating its push to secure airbases and high-value facilities from increasing drone incursions. Initial systems will arrive shortly, followed by phased deliveries through 2026. The radars—capable of differentiating drones from birds—refresh data every second and offer full 3D tracking. Recent incidents at Eindhoven Airport and Volkel Air Base prompted heightened urgency after drones forced temporary flight suspensions. Robin Radar’s technology has been sharpened using Ukrainian battlefield insights, leading to software upgrades more than doubling the Iris model’s range. Dutch officials have not specified whether Max, Iris, or Elvira units will be deployed. The purchase reflects a broader European effort to strengthen counter-UAS defenses amid rising drone activity near sensitive zones.
