As part of Peru’s overall maritime modernization initiative, HD Hyundai Heavy Industries of South Korea has reached an agreement with the state-owned Peruvian shipbuilder SIMA to collaborate on the development of a 1,500-ton submarine for the Peruvian Navy. The project’s goal is to replace Peru’s outdated submarine fleet with a new medium-sized vessel based on HD Hyundai’s HDS-1500 design.
