South Korean defense contractors Korean Air and LIG Nex1 have partnered in a bid for the Block-I EW aircraft program, a government initiative worth $1.31 billion. Their joint plan centers on converting a civilian passenger aircraft into an advanced electronic warfare platform. Designed to both detect hostile signals and disable enemy air defense networks, the project represents a milestone for South Korea in establishing its own large-scale electronic attack capability. Korean Air would manage platform integration and modification, while LIG Nex1 would deliver the electronic warfare suite. If awarded, the program would give South Korea strategic independence in EW operations and reduce reliance on foreign technology.
