Following Israel’s use of a large number of ammunition in its recent war with Iran, “the United States on Monday announced the approval of a $510 million sale to Israel of bomb guidance kits and related support.”
According to a statement from the US Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA), “The proposed sale will improve Israel’s ability to defend Israel’s borders, vital infrastructure, and population centers, thereby enhancing Israel’s capability to meet current and future threats.”
It continued, “The United States is dedicated to the security of Israel, and it is vital to US national interests to assist Israel in developing and maintaining a strong and ready self-defense capability.”
Although the potential transaction has been approved by the State Department, the DSCA must still inform the US Congress, which must approve it.
In an effort to halt Iran’s nuclear program, which Tehran claims is for civilian use but Washington and other nations claim is intended for the acquisition of atomic weapons, Israel launched an unprecedented air assault on June 13 against Iranian nuclear sites, scientists, and key military officers.
After weeks of pursuing a diplomatic route to replace the nuclear agreement with Tehran that he shattered in 2018 during his first term, Trump ultimately chose military action, ordering US assaults on Iranian nuclear facilities.
