Italy has made the formal decision to employ Germany’s Skynex air defense system in order to strengthen its air space protection. The manufacturer Rheinmetall revealed that a 73 million euro ($75 million) order had been placed for one Skynex system, which will function as a “pilot” platform for the Italian Army. The system consists of four 35mm firing units, a command-and-control center, and a high-performance sensor and tracking unit for air surveillance. The bundle also comes with spare parts, ammunition, training help, and repair services.
