The Hellenic Navy’s naval modernization effort progressed further with the launch of its third Kimon-class frigate, the HS Formion, by Naval Group at the Lorient shipyard in western France. The vessel’s first water contact signifies the start of final outfitting activities before handover to Greece.

One of the vessel’s key upgrades includes the installation of the Panoramic Sensors and Intelligence Module, which works in tandem with an integrated steel mast. Together, they offer superior detection and monitoring capabilities across a 360-degree range, enabling improved command performance and strategic maritime control. This class of ships is expected to serve as a backbone of Greece’s future naval operations.
