“Israel has carried out the first known combat use of a high-powered laser weapon, shooting down kamikaze drones launched by Hezbollah from Lebanon.”
A video of the interception was released by Rafael Advanced Defense Systems, showing the laser system identifying and neutralizing a moving airborne target in a matter of seconds.
The drone seemed to be a compact, fixed-wing unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) of traditional design, similar to the Iranian-made Ababil-T or other one-way attack drones frequently used by Hezbollah.
“Israel is the first nation in the world to successfully convert high-power laser technology into a fully functioning system and carry out real combat interceptions,” stated Dr. Yuval Steinitz, Chairman of Rafael.
