EDGE subsidiary Advanced Concepts has introduced the ESAD-50, a compact electronic safety arming device designed to replace traditional mechanical safeties in medium- and large-caliber munitions. Intended for weapons of 50mm caliber and above, the unit uses software-defined logic rather than mechanical sequences to authorize arming. An onboard inertial measurement unit continuously analyzes acceleration, rotation, and flight dynamics, generating a detailed motion profile before permitting activation. This digital approach enhances safety, reliability, and adaptability across a wide range of munition designs while reducing mechanical complexity.
