Denmark has announced the acquisition of 16 additional F-35 fighter jets from the United States, bringing the country’s total fleet to 43 aircraft. The deal, valued at 29 billion kroner ($4.5 billion), comes shortly after unidentified drones entered Danish airspace, prompting increased attention to national security.
In addition to the jets, Copenhagen will procure anti-drone defense systems worth 2.1 billion kroner ($320 million), following concerns about incursions over military installations. The purchases aim to strengthen Denmark’s security in the Arctic and North Atlantic regions.
The announcement arrives as European Union nations continue to assess whether to supplement or replace US-made F-35s with locally developed alternatives, highlighting ongoing debates over future defense procurement strategies
