In a recent procurement decision, Germany has selected Czech company Česká zbrojovka Uherský Brod (CZUB) to supply its military with a new service pistol, the P13, chambered in 9×19mm. This weapon will replace the long-serving Heckler & Koch P8 sidearm.
CZUB was chosen over competitors from Slovenia and Austria, with the contract awarded primarily on the basis of cost, according to reporting from Hartpunkt. No live fire trials were conducted during the evaluation process.
The German government is now finalizing a draft contract valued at 25 million euros ($29.2 million), which will be submitted for parliamentary approval ahead of autumn. If approved, the deal allows for up to 186,000 pistols to be delivered over a seven-year period.
The P13 has a maximum effective range of about 50 meters. The procurement also includes new carrying equipment tailored for various operational needs, although holsters will be excluded from the package. Instead, the gear will feature standardized interfaces for holster compatibility, as noted by the Federal Armed Forces Office during the project’s December 2024 announcement.
