Varjo, a Finnish technology firm, has unveiled new XR-4 mixed reality headsets targeting military and defense training applications. The series includes XR-4 Secure Edition and XR-4 Focal Edition, designed for high-fidelity simulations across air, land, and maritime operations. The devices feature enhanced sensors, autofocus passthrough cameras, improved low-light performance, and a reinforced design for operational use. Some models are certified for secure or radio-silent environments. The XR-4 headsets integrate seamlessly with existing defense simulation platforms, providing realistic training in combined physical and virtual environments. Adoption of MR technology in military training is rising globally. The US Army employs Varjo XR-3 headsets for helicopter crew training via the Reconfigurable Virtual Collective Trainer, while European forces utilize MR systems for both aviation and ground vehicle instruction, including Ukrainian F-16 pilot programs.
