BAE Systems has secured a $36-million order from Lockheed Martin to produce multifunction modular mast units for the US Navy’s Virginia-class submarines. The mast, a hardened RF antenna encased in a corrosion-resistant radome, scans, classifies, and maps hostile submarine signals while reducing visual and radar exposure. Its modular structure supports future sensor upgrades. Paired with the AN/BLQ-10 EW suite, the MMM will strengthen the submarine’s submerged sensing capabilities. Work will be performed across BAE’s New Hampshire facilities.
