Australia has awarded Austal a A$1.029-billion contract to build 18 Landing Craft Medium vessels for the Australian Army under the LAND 8710 program. Constructed in Western Australia, the steel-hulled craft can carry up to 90 tons, supporting amphibious operations in contested littoral environments. Deliveries will run through 2032, alongside eight larger Landing Craft Heavy vessels.
