Altechna, a Lithuanian photonics firm, was chosen to participate in a ground-breaking initiative to create Europe’s first fully autonomous 100-kilowatt laser weapon. The project, dubbed TALOS-TWO (Tactical Advanced Laser Optical Systems-TWO), seeks to increase the lethality and accuracy of air, land, and sea platforms by providing them with a potent directed-energy weapon. The European Defence Fund is funding the 25-million-euro ($27 million) project, which is scheduled to finish in 2030.
