South Korea is injecting artificial intelligence into its primary allied command-and-control architecture as part of a broader effort to modernize joint operations with the United States. Under the AKJCCS overhaul, Hanwha Systems is developing a next-generation platform designed to process data faster, automate decision-making, and enhance real-time coordination between combined forces. Planned upgrades include AI-driven operational analysis, automated command support, cloud-based servers, and virtual desktop infrastructure aimed at reducing response times during high-tempo scenarios. The system will also integrate multilingual translation tools, advanced collaboration features, and upgraded cyber defenses. Targeted for operational deployment by 2029, the rebuilt AKJCCS directly supports South Korea’s ambition to assume greater responsibility for wartime command, providing a technologically mature foundation that satisfies US criteria while enabling Seoul to lead combined operations with greater speed, clarity, and autonomy.
