Aerostar, a trusted Lockheed Martin-approved MRO center, has completed its first Phase Maintenance Inspection (PMI) for a Black Hawk® helicopter operated by Romania’s Ministry of Internal Affairs (MAI). Delivered ahead of schedule, this achievement underscores Aerostar’s commitment to high-quality service and its growing role in supporting Romania’s helicopter operations.
Before Aerostar’s certification as a Lockheed Martin Black Hawk support center, these inspections had to be conducted at operator bases, often limiting fleet availability. With Aerostar now providing PMI services, operators can prioritize day-to-day maintenance and mission readiness, increasing helicopter availability.
Following this initial success, Aerostar has already begun work on a second Black Hawk. The MAI fleet performs essential operations, including search and rescue at sea and on land, firefighting, medical evacuations, and transport missions.
Built to military specifications, the Sikorsky S-70M Black Hawk offers unmatched performance for Romania’s demanding operational environments. Sikorsky is set to deliver another Black Hawk in 2024 to further strengthen the Ministry’s fleet, which will soon total eight helicopters. Produced at Lockheed Martin’s PZL Mielec plant in Poland, these aircraft continue to serve crucial roles in emergency response and security missions across Europe.
