Germany has quietly secured a significant order exceeding 1,000 Mercedes-Benz Zetros military trucks for Ukraine, supplementing roughly 340 vehicles previously delivered since Russia’s invasion began, according to FAZ. Reportedly coordinated with Daimler Truck, the contract has not been publicly confirmed, though it is likely financed by Berlin as part of ongoing military aid to Kyiv. Estimated at hundreds of millions of euros, the acquisition is considered one of the largest under Germany’s confidential support program. Production ramp-up will see gradual deliveries over time. The Zetros, engineered by Mercedes-Benz Special Trucks, is a heavy-duty, off-road vehicle optimized for frontline operations. It can transport troops, fuel, and supplies, evacuate casualties, and is now being modified to counter drone threats. Known for its durability, the Zetros serves in more than ten national militaries and offers a payload capacity of 25 tons. Available in 4×2 to 8×8 configurations, it delivers up to 510 horsepower via an Allison 4500SP diesel engine, with Euro III or Euro V compliance and options for automatic, manual, or hybrid transmission. These attributes make it a versatile and reliable platform for modern battlefield logistics and tactical mobility.
