Romania is set to acquire the Iron Dome air and missile defense system from Israel, becoming the first European country to adopt the platform. Romanian Defense Minister Ionuț Moșteanu confirmed that the official deal is expected to be signed in autumn 2025. Manufactured by Israeli state-owned Rafael, the Iron Dome integrates Elta’s multi-mission radar, Tamir interceptors, and mPrest’s C2 system. It is capable of intercepting a wide range of aerial threats, including rockets, missiles, and drones, at ranges up to 70 kilometers and altitudes of 10,000 meters. The acquisition reflects Romania’s commitment to strengthening its national air defense amid growing regional security concerns and aligns with broader NATO efforts to enhance integrated missile defense across Europe.
