By integrating haptics technology into its Synthetic Training Environment Live Training Systems (STE LTS), the US Army hopes to close the gap between virtual training and actual combat.
Wearable gadgets that may send vibrations and forces to mimic the sense of touch are used in haptics technology, which brings a level of realism to training simulations without the dangers and risks of live combat training.
Physical feedback, like simulated bullet impacts, resistance, and gun recoil, will be integrated into STE LTS via haptics, enhancing the immersion of virtual training. The army is also looking into strategies to include explosion effects in the future.
