Huntington Ingalls Industries has formally handed over USS Ted Stevens (DDG 128), a Flight III Arleigh Burke-class guided missile destroyer, to the U.S. Navy, strengthening efforts to modernize surface combatants amid intensifying global maritime competition. Built around the Aegis Combat System, the destroyer integrates the advanced SPY-6(V)1 radar, delivering a substantial leap in detection range, target discrimination, and resilience in electronic warfare environments compared to earlier variants. Coupled with Aegis Baseline 10, the ship can conduct complex multi-domain missions spanning air defense, missile defense, and surface warfare. The delivery highlights growing production efficiency at Ingalls Shipbuilding and reinforces the Flight III program as a cornerstone of future U.S. naval combat capability.
