The future USS Iowa (SSN 797), the newest attack submarine in the U.S. Navy Submarine Force, was given to the Navy on December 22, 2024. It is the 12th combat force ship delivered to the Navy this calendar year. Through a longstanding teaming agreement, General Dynamics Electric Boat (GDEB) and HII-Newport News Shipbuilding co-produced SSN 797, the 24th Virginia-class submarine (VCS), and GDEB delivered the 13th attack submarine.
