L3Harris Technologies has been awarded a $24-million contract to provide AN/PRC-158C NGC2 Gateway Manpack radios for the US Army’s 4th Infantry Division. The radios, a modified Falcon IV AN/PRC-158, operate from 30 to 2,500 MHz and include MUOS satellite capability for beyond-line-of-sight communications. These devices form part of the Army’s NGC2 transport layer, designed to create a unified, secure communications network connecting multiple battlefield assets. Using software-defined communications, the radios can switch between waveforms and act as routers to link disparate networks. While intended to enhance interoperability, a recent Army memo flagged potential security risks, including unauthorized access and vulnerabilities in some third-party applications. The contract also provides delivery, training, and operational support in preparation for Project Convergence 2026 exercises.
