The US Army has awarded Oshkosh Defense a contract to deliver 97 FMTV A2 Low-Velocity Airdrop cargo vehicles, enhancing airborne logistics support for Mobile Brigade Combat Teams. The procurement covers both 4×4 and 6×6 configurations and includes specialized Arctic Kits to ensure reliable performance in extreme cold and remote environments. Designed for rapid airdrop into contested zones, the FMTV A2 LVAD reduces reliance on established supply routes and fixed bases, enabling forces to sustain operations in denied or austere areas. Testing of the 4×4 variant was completed successfully in early 2025, following earlier qualification of the 6×6 models. The vehicles offer a range of payload options, from light cargo vans to heavy 8-ton transport variants, balancing speed, mobility, and carrying capacity. The contract reflects the Army’s emphasis on expeditionary logistics, survivability, and operational flexibility in future high-intensity conflicts.
