Kuwait has received US government clearance for a $325 million tank support agreement, designed to maintain the strength and performance of its Abrams tank fleet. The program will cover both Kuwait’s older M1A2 tanks and newer M1A2K configurations, which feature upgraded armor and advanced combat electronics.

The contract provides spare engines, communications components, optical systems, and training services to local maintenance personnel. It also includes technical support teams that will be deployed to Kuwait to assist in upgrades and troubleshooting for critical Abrams subsystems such as the thermal imaging sight and fire-control computer.

The principal contractor will be General Dynamics Land Systems, who will ensure that the Abrams systems are maintained at peak operational standards. The sale aligns with the US policy of supporting key allies in the Gulf and promoting regional deterrence capabilities amid rising tensions and strategic uncertainty.
