The UK has committed £279 million ($373 million) to build a dedicated base for the army’s cyber regiment at Duke of Gloucester Barracks in Gloucestershire.
The new installation will serve 13 Signal Regiment and include a Cyber, Information and Security Operations Centre, training facilities, technical buildings, and modern accommodations for personnel. Bovis, a UK construction firm, won the contract, which is projected to create 92 jobs, including 32 apprenticeships and roles for ex-military personnel. Construction will start in summer 2027, with completion expected in spring 2030.
The development will deliver 248 single-occupancy bedspaces, 30 service family homes, and upgrades to existing housing. A quarter of the spending will be directed to local businesses, and a similar portion will support small and medium enterprises.
This project forms part of a broader UK MoD push to enhance cyber and communications capabilities, following contracts awarded to BAE Systems for battlefield-wide connectivity through the Trinity network and QinetiQ for secure data management and integrated cyber operations.
