BAE Systems has been selected by the US Air Force to enhance the electronic warfare suite of the U-2 Dragon Lady, reinforcing its ability to operate in high-threat environments. The contract includes maintenance and upgrades to the AN/ALQ-221 defensive system, which provides real-time threat detection and countermeasures. Work will be carried out at BAE’s Nashua facility, ensuring continuous operational support. Despite its origins in the Cold War, the U-2 remains a vital intelligence asset due to its high-altitude capabilities and advanced sensor suite.
